I've recently realized that over the years my coding skills have for most of my life been a purely utilitarian skillset.
I don't really code solely for the joy of it. I have fun with the process when I'm writing code for myself, definitely. But I never sit down to write code for the sake of writing code. It's always because I want/need a computer or application to do something for me, and the only way to coax novel behavior out is with some code.
