Latex on its own does not make you sweat. That would require it to be bioactive and activate your thermoregulatory system while only having contact with your skin.

However, latex IS an excellent waterproof barrier.

Latex prevents your sweat, which your body is already producing constantly, from evaporating off your skin, thus making you feel like it's making you sweat more.

Further evidence of the claim: latex is a terrible thermal insulator--really the only thing worse you can wear is fishnet--and an excellent infrared absorber.

Latex DOES NOT keep you warm when you're in cold air, nor does it help cool you down when you're in hot air! It cannot help your body thermoregulate! At all!

And if you're out in the sun, it'll absorb all that infrared radiation and REALLY make you miserable.

@dragonarchitect i would even say it increases heat loss in cold places, because it defeats the thermal isolations of body hair and fluffy clothing

@dragonarchitect yup exactly. Look what we have to put up with just to be shiny 😩

@dragonarchitect latex is great at defeating your body’s thermal regulating capabilities either way, it’s horrible lol

@dragonarchitect So apparently it's definitely not a good company to the body's thermal regulating functions. And is only useful at harvesting sweat in this case :3

@dragonarchitect This makes Folsom Street Fair very… interesting. There's a minimum temperature to wear it at all, and even then it's darting between sun and shade depending on what the wind is doing.

@rubrcat That sounds like things get pretty unbearable pretty quickly no matter what you do to try to not be miserable

@dragonarchitect eh I wouldn't say miserable, just keeps you on your toes
